Cook Less
My husband and I had a brief empty nest period where it was just he and I. For me that transition was difficult. I was still cooking, as if, the boys were still home. Poor hubbie was eating as much as he could, but after putting on 15lbs we had the conversation. He asked, "why are you still preparing so much food when the boys are gone"?
Understand, for the past 18 or more years that was my reality. Preparing large amounts of food to accommodate the appetites of A strong Husband and two growing sons. However, my season had changed. There was a significant shift in my life narrative when Pacman and Piranha left the building...LOL.
Yet, I was still responding to past stimuli instead of embracing my NOW moment? "What a waste" of money, time, and energy.
I recalibrated my thinking to focus on what is... instead of what was. This requires deliberate discipline. I had to purchase smaller pans and modify recipes in order to embrace my new normal.
Sisters, I encourage you to take inventory of your life..and see what is being wasted because your situation changed, but you remained the same.
Are you still holding on to the hurts of the past, causing you to lose energy and precious time to something that has no living properties outside of your emotions and mind?
If so, it is time to take inventory and identify the waste and cook less. Stop wasting time emulating what was only to waste what is. Redeem the time and maximize every moment so that no...thing will be wasted.
The Apostle Paul in his writings to the church at Philippi gave great insight on how to embrace the new saying, "Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the mark..."
(Philippians 3:13)
